Improving the lives of animals through genetic research

Jacquelyn received her B.A. in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Baylor University in 2004 and began her doctoral studies in the canine genetics laboratory at Texas A&M University the same year. She will be defending her doctoral dissertation in late 2007 and plans to enter veterinary school in 2008. Her research concerns the genetics of pancreatic acinar atrophy (PAA) in the German Shepherd Dog, dermatomyositis in the Shetland Sheepdog and Collie, and pigmentation. In 2006, she was awarded the Fisher Institute Medical Research Award. Jacquelyn is a contributing author to work on PAA that was published in Mammalian Genome in 2005. This work was featured on the cover. She also co-authored a paper on the genetics of the merle phenotype published in PNAS in 2006. This work was highlighted by: a. an accompanying Commentary; b. mention in This Week in PNAS and; c. selection of an image for the cover. Jacquelyn was also an invited speaker at The 2007 North American Veterinary Dermatology Forum to present her research on dermatomyositis in the Shetland Sheepdog.
