Hansen

Jakki Hansen’s civil litigation practice, Hansen Law Firm, PC, specializes in insurance defense and professional malpractice cases.

In her years advocating in court on behalf the State of Texas and Harris County, Jakki Hansen gained a well-deserved reputation as an expert litigator. In law school, Jakki Hansen demonstrated her skills in written and oral legal advocacy as a participant in the Hippard Open Mock Trial Competition and as an inductee into The Order of the Barristers.

Following receipt of her law degree, Jakki Hansen elected to pursue public service, joining the Harris County District Attorney’s Office as an Assistant District Attorney (ADA). As an ADA, Jakki Hansen represented the State in criminal proceedings, obtaining judgments against those guilty of crimes through plea agreements and trials. For her mastery of litigation procedure up to and including trial, Jakki Hansen was appointed the County Court Chief, responsible for training and overseeing Junior Assistant District Attorneys in the District Attorney’s Office.

After transferring her criminal trial skills to the civil context during her time in the private sector, Jakki Hansen was invited by the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO) to join its in-house legal department. As Senior Staff Council with METRO, Jakki Hansen put her knowledge of civil procedure and trial practices to use defending Harris County’s transportation system against major lawsuits.

As examples of her accomplishments with METRO, Jakki Hansen cites prevailing for the Authority defending the Authority in a lawsuit alleging unfounded violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act and defending METRO against claims by the Texas Medical Center, a suit which resulted in an amicable agreement and enhancement of the relationship among the parties. For her efforts, the Authority elevated Jakki Hansen to the position of Deputy General Counsel, a position second only to General Counsel within the Authority’s legal department.

During her time as Deputy General Counsel, Jakki Hansen continued to handle cases while also overseeing other ongoing litigation, supervising staff in the legal department, and working with the Authority’s Board of Directors.
