Forsyth County, Janna Maresco
November, 2010
By: Janna Maresco
Situated northeast of Atlanta, Georgia, Forsyth County came into existence after a 10-way split of a portion of Cherokee County territory in 1832. Named after a former governor of Georgia, for several decades a majority of the county’s land served agricultural enterprises. Around 1954, when the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce was first formed, Forsyth County began establishing itself as a major hub for the poultry industry. Today, Forsyth County remains at the forefront of the state’s poultry business, with plants and distributions centers peppered throughout the county. As construction of Interstate 400 began in the early 1970s, the county experienced further economic development. A decade later, the completion of the interstate facilitated a suburbanization movement that boosted real estate in the area. Forsyth County’s proximity to the urban excitement of Atlanta and the natural wonders of the Blue Ridge Mountains and Lake Sidney Lanier provide residents with access to the best of both worlds. My company, North Atlanta Executive Air Service, provides residents and visitors with helicopter tours that take passengers on scenic rides above the fascinating urban sprawl of Atlanta and over the gorgeous natural expanses of nearby mountains and lakes. As a co-owner of North Atlanta Executive Air Service, I participate as a member of the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce and contribute to the organization’s various endeavors. The Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce dedicates its efforts and activities to generating revenue and promoting community businesses for all of its residents. It encourages economic development and supports the county’s school system.
