Jeanine has devoted her professional career to public service. In 1975, she became an Assistant District Attorney in New York’s Westchester County. As a courtroom prosecutor trying major violent felony cases, Pirro established a reputation as a highly skilled prosecutor with a 100% conviction rate. Pirro headed one of the first domestic violence units in a prosecutor’s office in the nation. In 1990, Jeanine Pirro was the first woman elected County Court Judge in the history of Westchester County. In 1993, Jeanine Pirro ran for Westchester County District Attorney and won, breaking tradition once again and becoming the first woman in Westchester County to hold such a position. The people of Westchester County in New York, a county of approximately one million people, re-elected her to that position in 1997 and 2001. In 2006, Jeanine Pirro shifted her career focus to state-level politics, gaining statewide recognition when she won the GOP candidacy for New York State Attorney General.
