Joe Barbat is the founder and CEO of Wireless Toyz in Southfield, Michigan. One of the first businessmen to retail phones from several different service providers under one roof, Joe Barbat has expanded Wireless Toyz into a one-stop destination for all his customers’ cellular and satellite television needs as well as accessories. By securing a number of non-exclusive contracts with service providers, Joe Barbat developed Wireless Toyz as a business aimed at customers interested in a broad range of choices. Wireless Toyz was one of the first cellular outfits of its kind, and Joe Barbat has expanded the company to more than 190 locations across the country. Joe Barbat cites his father, who was an entrepreneur, as one of his most important role models. Before he founded Wireless Toyz, Joe Barbat often visited his father’s office and video store to learn more about the process of growing a business. At the age of 17, Joe Barbat opened a kiosk selling pagers in the video store and quickly brought in enough revenue to open his own store just after one year. In 2005, Wireless Toyz opened its 100th location in Anaheim, California; in 2007, Entrepreneur Magazine ranked Wireless Toyz among the U.S.’s fastest-growing franchises.
