Joe is currently the Vice President, International for VideoEgg (www.videoegg.com), a venture-backed startup that is focused on rich media advertising for online social media sites. Joe has been a key architect of VideoEgg’s early success, responsible for all revenue-generating deals and strategic partner relationships. He is also the Managing Partner of The Katama Group, a Web 2.0 consultancy that advises consumer-facing internet and mobile content companies on strategy and international business development.

Prior to founding Katama, Joe ran business development and international operations for Friendster (www.friendster.com), one of the first leading online social networks. At Friendster, Joe grew the company’s international revenues from zero to $3 million, added 5 million international users and launched the first mobile social networking application. Earlier in his career, Joe ran business development for AOL (www.aol.com) in Japan and Australia, and worked as a corporate securities lawyer at Linklaters, a London-based law firm. Joe sits on the advisory boards of a number of mobile content and consumer internet start-up companies such as FirstFridays.com, LendingClub.com, SocialURL.com and BubbleShare, Inc.

Joe has been featured or quoted in numerous publications discussing social networking, international expansion, and Web 2.0. He is a frequent conference speaker and panelist, focusing on social networks and monetization, video advertising, and international distribution. In April 2006, Joe and his wife were profiled in a segment of CBS’ popular 60 Minutes news program, discussing technology and the workplace.

Joe received an A.B. in East Asian Studies and Government from Harvard College, a graduate degree in international affairs from Columbia University, and a law degree from Harvard Law School. Currently living in Los Altos, CA with his wife and daughter, Joe enjoys travelling, reading historical biographies, swimming, running, and Sunday afternoon naps on the couch.
