John Boumenot has volunteered as an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher for the past three years. Mr. Boumenot gained his qualifications from Literacy Works, an organization dedicated to meeting Chicago’s adult literacy needs through distinctive programs. He also earned a Language Education graduate degree and TESOL certification from the London Teacher Training College. He has received Tutor of the Month recognition for his efforts.

John Boumenot’s passion for teaching extends to the mid-1980s, when he lived in Hong Kong for a year, providing English tutoring for two teenage boys on a weekly basis. In addition to community volunteer work, he currently offers English instruction to TESOL students over the Internet.

John Boumenot operated his own small construction and rental property management company from 1972 to 2008. As owner of BW Rentals, he oversaw a staff of four, concentrating on the building and renovation of luxury residences. Mr. Boumenot also managed properties on the rental market, with property ownership spanning Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, and Wisconsin. In 1998, he accepted a position with Walworth County, Wisconsin’s Affordable Housing Committee. Serving as Chairman, he utilized his construction process expertise in establishing a community shelter and expanding reasonably priced housing options.

An American Red Cross donor, John Boumenot also volunteers at a refugee center in the Chicago area. Additionally, he volunteers with the Heartland Alliance, the Erie Neighborhood House, and the South-East Asia Center. As former Vice President of the Lincoln Park Builders of Chicago, he holds affiliation with an honorary society that includes construction firm owners, building contractors, real estate developers, and property managers. Mr. Boumenot has traveled extensively in Europe, and he enjoys fishing and reading in his free time. With a commitment to conserving saltwater fish for future generations, John Boumenot maintains listing in the NOAA Fisheries Service’s National Saltwater Angler Registry.
