Karavitis also makes time to read and is especially drawn to works of horror, philosophy, science, and science fiction, for example, those of Clifford A. Pickover, Dean Koontz, M. A. Foster, Kristine Kathryn Rusch, and Robert A. Heinlein. Heinlein’s “Have Space Suit, Will Travel” has been one of John V. Karavitis’ favorite books since childhood. John V. Karavitis also greatly enjoyed Dean Koontz’ “Frankenstein” trilogy. John V. Karavitis recommends approaching topics in philosophy through The Blackwell Philosophy and Pop Culture Series, which brings new relevancy to age-old philosophical questions by applying them to contemporary life. John V. Karavitis’ favorite quote is from Winston Churchill, “A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.”
