John
Lewis

Thinker, modeller and trainer

57, Sidmouth, United Kingdom

John Lewis has held an Atlas Research Fellowship at, and holds a DPhil from, Oxford University. He also holds a BSc(Hons) from Bath University in Applied Physics.

John is the founder of Holosoft, a software technology transfer company, and has spent the sixteen years from 1991 to 2007 as a freelance instructor in software design and technology. His interests and expertise lie in understanding the principles of software technologies and systems and in continually improving their explanation and use by others. His emphasis is on object-oriented approaches to software technology with a focus on UML, Java and C++ languages.

As the developers of business applications in the corporate world strive to migrate even more of their business processes from paper to electrons, much of their initial and ongoing training is being provided face-to-face by a merry band of a few hundred road warriors of which he is proud to be one.

Previously, his career in technical research included both academic and commercial posts with a theme of mathematical modelling, combined with numerical simulation. Much of this work related to the mechanisms of optical storage and processing devices and systems.
Examples include: guided wave optical processing devices, surface wave effects for rewritable optical storage, holographic storage and imaging mechanisms, polarizing optical systems for optical disc storage.

Recreationally, John has been immersed in, recovered from and subsequently continued to enjoy a number of activities, including skiing, sailing, karate, golf and flying. He holds a UK PPL with Night and IMC ratings.
