Partner, Ramsbacher Prokey LLPSan Jose, CaliforniaFor over two decades, John Ramsbacher has been practicing law in California. As Partner of Ramsbacher Prokey LLP, he counsels wealthy clients and family businesses in matters related to estate and gift planning, tax law, probate, and IRS and FTB controversy. Besides leading a team of five attorneys at Ramsbacher Prokey, he regularly contributes his insights to others in his profession, writing and speaking about these subjects for legal publications and seminars. Ramsbacher Prokey’s lawyers are well known for their expertise in their field. In the 1990s, John Ramsbacher produced articles on Crummey powers for contingent beneficiaries and Cristofani trusts for the publication Estate Planning. The following decade, the New York University Institute on Federal Taxation printed his pieces on entity-based transfer tax valuation adjustments and avoiding 2036(a) in planning one’s estate. Most recently, Ramsbacher co-wrote “The Family Limited Partnership: Forming, Funding, and Defending” for The Practical Tax Lawyer. Throughout this period, both John Ramsbacher and fellow partner John Prokey appeared at conferences across the country. Along with discussing estate and gift tax audits and appeals at The State Bar of California’s Education Institutes in Monterey and San Diego and at the 4th Annual Estate and Gift Tax Conference in Los Angeles and San Francisco, Ramsbacher traveled to Hawaii to present on the taxable estate and IRS tax disputes at the 33rd Annual Hawaii Tax Institute. Ramsbacher analyzed family limited partnerships (FLPs) for California’s continuing legal education program, the California Society of CPAs (Certified Public Accountants), New York University, and the Practising Law Institute’s Annual Estate Planning Institute. Several years ago, the University of Southern California’s Gould School of Law’s Tax Institute invited John Ramsbacher to offer his thoughts on FLPs, Limited Liability Companies, and alternative estate freeze techniques. Ramsbacher remains active in his career by belonging to several local bar associations and estate planning councils. In acknowledgment of his achievements with Ramsbacher Prokey, John Ramsbacher ranks as a Super Lawyer, a Best Lawyer in America, and a Fellow with the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.
