Jose Carlos Gonzalez Hurtado- Businessman & EntrepreneurParis, FranceJose Carlos Gonzalez-Hurtado is a prime example of where starting at the bottom can get you right to the top. Gonzalez-Hurtado began his career at Procter and Gamble (P&G) as an Assistant Brand Manager in 1989 where he held this position for 3 years in Madrid. He became Brand Manager in 1991and moved to Athens in 1995 where he became Marketing Manager of Laundry and Cleaning Products. During this time he was in charge of the development and introduction of bleach to Greece and established the first factory in the country. He held the title for the fastest promotion to Marketing Manager in the history of P&G in Western Europe. In 1997 he returned to Madrid and designed and developed the introduction of first beverages business in Southern Europe. Under his management, all brands reached record profits and in 1999 absolute profits doubled the 1997 figures. In 1999 he moved to Geneva to become the Marketing Director for two separate P&G business units – Beauty Care and Fabric and Home Care. Responsible for the hair care business in his region he managed a union of more than 30 different locations worldwide and was part of the Global team leading the Worldwide Acquisition of Clairol Hair Care and Colorant Business. His biggest challenge came in 2001 when Gonzalez-Hurtado moved to Israel to become General Manager in Israel, West Bank and Gaza. As the first local General Manager for the newly established subsidiary, he headed this turbulent region during its most catastrophic and economic recession. During his mission, Israel doubled the brands, tripled the profits, increased a 60% turnover and P&G attained one of the top world employee rates of satisfaction. In 2004 Gonzalez-Hurtado moved to Kiev and was named General Manager of Global Leadership Council in Eastern Europe. He was accountable for Wella, Gala and Gillette business and P&G became the most well-liked company in the whole of the Ukraine. Under his supervision, P&G and Gala enjoyed a turnover of over $700 million with over 3,000 employees. In 2006 Gonzalez-Hurtado became Vice President of the Braun Global Business Unit in Kronberg. He was responsible for turning around and restructuring Braun and Braun business globally and became acting President in early 2008. Following a decade of decline, in 2008 the market shares reached record high levels in grooming and in hair care businesses. In spite of global recession, Braun’s equity scored best ever in all key countries. After 20 years of commitment and devotion to Procter & Gamble, Gonzalez-Hurtado changed his direction and became Carrefour Group’s CCO in Paris. As of June 2010 he became responsible for all Global Carrefour private label brands which represent over 25% of total top and bottom line for the Group.
