Julian Carta is an intelligent and successful young man who graduated cum laude from James Madison University with a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations. He then studied abroad at the University of Oxford for a year with a scholarship. During this time, Julian Carta learned about politics, philosophy, and economics. He describes the experience as the “academic highlight of his life,” and he finished the term with a 3.9 grade point average. His excellent college work ethic has carried through to his professional life, and Julian Carta has contributed to several organizations. He worked as the Head Lifeguard and Pool Manager for Boar’s Head Inn & Sports Club in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he held numerous responsibilities, including overseeing general safety, pool maintenance, housekeeping, and hotel pool management. He also supervised guard shifts and junior staff. The Inn named him Lifeguard of the Week on several different occasions, and his water skills proved an asset when he became an Assistant Coach for the Crozet Gators Swim Team at Crozet Park Pool. There, he was responsible for planning meets, overseeing team practices, and ensuring good conduct among 250 team members, who ranged in age from 6 to 18. He also submitted articles to The Breeze, JMU’s student newspaper, as a Contributing Writer. He researched and wrote opinion pieces on contemporary politics, economics, and human rights, and assisted with editing final versions of other articles. Currently, Julian Carta works for the Semester at Sea program at the Institute for Shipboard Education, in the New Business Development department. He manages relationships with major travel partners, programming support, and marketing assistance, and he will be serving as staff on the company’s upcoming Spring Enrichment Voyage. Julian Carta also devotes his time to the Piedmont Family YMCA in Charlottesville, where he acts as one of the CYAC Swim Team’s Assistant Coaches. He organizes team practices, controls set pace, and coordinates dry-land workouts, primarily for groups above age 12. He coaches two to three times a week, taking time out of his evenings. Mr. Carta frequently assists local nonprofit swim teams, guiding youth based on his firsthand experience.
