Kael T
Block

Photographer Kael T. Block strives to portray the experience of female-to-male transsexuals with a particular emphasis on political and community empowerment.

Paris, France

Artist Kael T. Block has built a portfolio of evocative, provocative works in which politics, social context, and the deeply personal merge. Since 2005, Kael T. Block has exhibited slideshows and photographs related to XX Boys, a project centered on documenting and exploring the female-to-male transsexual community around the world, as well as a number of other works and installation pieces.

Prior to launching the XX Boys project, Kael T. Block was a tattoo artist, and his past career has clearly influenced his photography. Kael T. Block often emphasizes the texture of his subject’s skin; his photographic gaze lingers at the body’s surface, nonetheless evoking a strong sense of the psychic forces within. In addition, Kael T. Block has been working for Tetu magazine since 2005 and has shot portraits of gay and lesbian advocates and individuals as well as world famous artists such as Cindy Lauper, Bret Easton Ellis, and k.d. Lang.

A former student of Visual Communication and Graphic Design in Paris, Kael T. Block left school to concentrate on his political and artistic projects. Kael T. Block has traveled to the United States and Europe for openings of XX Boys and other series. For a schedule of Kael T. Block’s past and forthcoming exhibitions, visit kaeltblock.fr.
