West Coast-based philanthropist Kathleen Patton has made great strides at Crossing the Digital Divide, the computer training organization she co-founded.

Los Angeles, California

Ms. Kathleen Patton is one of three founders of the award-winning, Southern California-based computer training company Crossing the Digital Divide. Crossing the Digital Divide, a non-profit organization, provides job training for high-risk adults who are in the process of recovering from drug abuse and/or incarceration. The goal of Crossing the Digital Divide is to the bridge the gap between professionals in the technology industry and people who have little to no experience with computers and technology.

Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director Kathleen Patton’s vision is giving adults a chance to learn valuable computer skills, as well as build a successful career. Ms. Kathleen Patton’s executive role at Crossing the Digital Divide includes overseeing the entire company and assisting with operations on all levels. Crossing the Digital Divide, which has been in existence for more than four years, relies on a strong base of volunteers and donors who lend their time and support to Crossing the Digital Divide. During the time that Crossing the Digital Divide has been in operation, hundreds of students have graduated from the program. In fact, by the close of 2008, about 1,000 students will have successfully completed the Crossing the Digital Divide program.

Due to its numerous successes, Crossing the Digital Divide has been recognized by the mayor of Los Angeles and has been the recipient of various awards and certificates. Crossing the Digital Divide now offers three training centers, which will allow the organization to reach out to even more at-risk adults in need of job skills. Crossing the Digital Divide receives countless hours of help from volunteers, and Ms. Kathleen Patton gives back to the community by being a volunteer herself. Kathleen Patton, who has been volunteering since her college days, is a partner with other organizations, including Cri-Help, House of Uhuru, and Walden House.
