Kayje
Booker

Environmental Activist, AmericCorps leader

32, Berkeley, California

Kayje was born in Montana and is continually motivated by that landscape (both the myth and reality) in her work. After moving to the big city of St. Louis for college and graduating with a future husband but without a clue of what to do in the future, she held a string of odd jobs in Bozeman before finding a sort of fulfillment in creating an after-school program with AmeriCorps in Washington. Those empty plains and big skies called out to her again, though, and she left AmeriCorps to pursue an environmental degree at Berkeley. She hopes to someday get out of the lab and into the field to help find ways to maximize the environmental and social benefits of alternative energy in rural places here and abroad. She loves to camp and play soccer but is incapable of learning to knit.
