Kenneth Rubenstein Proskauer Rose

In this capacity, Kenneth Rubenstein leads patent reviews, licensing programs, competition law cases, and patent litigation efforts for clients of Proskauer Rose.

Throughout the course of his legal career, which spans nearly three decades and has culminated in his post with Proskauer Rose, Kenneth Rubenstein has built experience in a host of fields, including telecommunications, optics, networking, consumer electronics, semiconductors, and video processing. Formerly a member of the patent team at Bell Laboratories, Rubenstein pursued a varied education and began exploring his talents for patents even before entering the legal arena and serving with Proskauer Rose. Kenneth Rubenstein of Proskauer Rose completed his undergraduate coursework at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). After procuring a Bachelor of Science, he endeavored to further his education and enrolled in a Ph.D. program at the same institution.

After graduating, Kenneth Rubenstein began as a trainee and subsequently obtained certification as a Registered Patent Agent, a role that developed his skills in the preparation and submission of patent applications. Today, he lives and works in the greater New York metropolitan area.     Attorney Kenneth Rubenstein practices with the intellectual property group of the law firm Proskauer Rose LLP. Mr. Rubenstein’s experience in technological innovation stretches back to his studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he received a B.A. in 1975 and a PhD in physics in 1979. Following his scientific training, Kenneth Rubenstein attended New York Law School in Manhattan and was admitted to the New York Bar in 1983 and the New Jersey Bar In 1984.

He also works in accommodating clients’ diverse needs in patent litigation and dispute resolution, contested patent office proceedings, and strategic counseling on ways of maximizing value from a patent portfolio. Mr. Rubenstein’s Proskauer Rose LLP practice group also fulfills the patent-focused requirements of research institutions and academic centers.

    Attorney Kenneth Rubenstein has expertise in independent patent evaluations within patent pools such as MPEG-2 systems, which involve digital signal transport for simultaneous reproduction; optical disc standards such as CD, CD-R, DVD-ROM, and DVD-R; and wireless transmission standards such as DVB-T, DVB-H, ATSC, and WiMAX. One patent pool client served by Mr. Rubenstein’s group is the Open Patent Alliance, LLC, which requires patent evaluation for the WiMAX forum mobile system profile. Attorney Kenneth Rubenstein has undertaken public speaking engagements, including a Biotech Patent Pool co-presentation at the 2009 New York Biotechnology Association Annual Meeting.
