American Bar Association (ABA), Kyleen Cane
September, 2010
A member of the American Bar Association (ABA), Kyleen Cane served on its Standing Committee on Legal Access and received the association’s Louis M. Brown award for Legal Access. The ABA was instituted in 1878 through an agreement of 100 lawyers, representing 21 states around the nation. Before the creation of the ABA, lawyers were largely independent professionals who trained through an apprenticeship system. They were held to no standard ethical code nor was there a forum for professional discussion at the national level. The ABA was thus founded as central organization for lawyers that promoted the profession through support, education, and dialogue. Today, the ABA identifies four major pursuits: serving its members on a professional level, improving the country’s legal education system and promoting ethical and competent practice of law, extinguishing bias, and advancing the public understanding of and respect for law. In support of its members, the American Bar Association publishes a monthly magazine titled the ABA Journal, which is distributed to all members. In addition to providing general legal news, the organization has engineered various sections that provide news pertinent to a specific law subject. The publications of such sections include the Annual Bulletin of the Comparative Law Bureau, Law Practice Magazine for practice management, and GPSolo Magazine, which targets general practice attorneys, solo lawyers, and small firms. The ABA also funds an annual meeting for its members, which offers vital networking opportunities, keynote speakers, continuing legal education courses, and the ABA EXPO.

By Kyleen Cane
The Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval (EDGAR) system collects and validates file submissions from companies and individuals required to submit forms to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Through EDGAR, the SEC accelerates the analysis of time-sensitive material and ensures the efficiency and objectivity of the securities market.
These efforts enable investors and corporations to profit and the economy to flourish. Because of the importance of timely and accurate SEC filings, software companies have entered the market with targeted EDGAR filing solutions which allow thousands of legal and financial entities around the world to submit their corporate information in the most timely and efficient manner possible.
In Las Vegas, Nevada, Kyleen Cane of Cane Clark LLP helps clients remain in compliance with SEC laws and utilizes EDGAR software to obtain and submit filing codes; registration statements; and periodic, quarterly, and annual reports.
