President of Leonard A Roudner M.D., P.A., F.A.C.S.
Born in Australia, Dr. Leonard Roudner received his medical degree from Australia’s oldest medical school, the Melbourne Medical School at The University of Melbourne. Trained at the Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital in a surgical residency, Dr. Leonard Roudner also trained in a surgical residency at Mater Hospital in Brisbane and then relocated to the United States where he continued his surgical residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Florida. Dr. Leonard Roudner completed his plastic surgery residency at Loyola University Chicago and its affiliated hospitals in Cook County, where he refined a procedure for inserting silicone breasts implants. Instead of the standard method at that time in which an incision was made under the breast, Dr. Leonard Roudner entered the breast through the nipple area and under the muscle. This procedure, called periareolar submuscular augmentation, is now standard in breast augmentation and one of its main benefits is minimal scarring. Dr. Leonard Roudner was one of few plastic surgeons employing this technique when he opened his private practice.
Settling in Miami, Florida in 1981, Dr. Leonard Roudner established the Aesthetic Surgery Center of Coral Gables in 1989. Having completed over 13,000 breast augmentations since, Dr. Leonard Roudner is known as one of the finest practitioners of the procedure, with clients including numerous celebrities, centerfolds, adult film stars, and fashion models.
A Diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Leonard Roudner is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the American Medical Association, and the Greater Miami Plastic Surgery Association. Dr. Leonard Roudner also works as a plastic surgeon at the Baptist Hospital of Miami and South Miami Hospital.

After-Care Tips for Individuals Recovering from Breast Surgery , Leonard Roudner
March, 2011
By Leonard Roudner
As a cosmetic surgeon who has extensive experience in performing breast augmentations, I understand the need for proper after-care. Clients who visit my office in Coral Gables, Florida, choose from a wide range of aesthetic services, and whenever they opt for a procedure that involves surgery, I advise them about the healing process.
While this list of tips shouldn’t be used as a comprehensive strategy for recovering from breast surgery, it is an overview of the most important factors that will contribute to a successful healing process. A woman’s personal surgeon knows her health factors best and can give her specific instructions, though these points should be followed universally:
1. Spend at least the first day in bed. These initial hours are hard on many women, and it’s a good idea to have an assistant on hand to help you get to the bathroom, eat, and fulfill other basic needs.
2. Don’t exercise the muscles around the chest or shoulders for several weeks. Any heavy lifting, strenuous activity or exercise is out of the question for an individual who is in recovery from breast augmentation surgery.
3. Refrain from physical contact with newly enlarged breasts, as this can affect the sensitivity and pain levels experienced by patients.
4. Wear protective clothing until the healing process is complete. Women who undergo breast augmentations run the risk of infection, pain, or other issues if they do not exercise extreme caution during their healing process. Patients should always follow their surgeon’s after-care instructions and pay attention to the signs and symptoms of infection or other complications.

In addition to JAMA, the AMA also publishes the Archives of Internal Medicine, the Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, and the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery, among other titles.
Additional avenues for educational and professional development offered by the American Medical Association include a comprehensive database for continuing medical education (CME) courses, a private online community for the discussion of the future of medical education, and a list of open residencies and fellowships for medical students. The AMA also offers webinars in a wide variety of topics, such as Group Practice Physicians (GPP), Health Information Technology (Health IT), Organized Medical Staff Section (OMSS), and Resident and Fellow Section (RFS).
Another significant arm of the American Medical Association is the organization’s advocacy program.
