As Superintendent, Leslye Abrutyn, EdD, contributed her insight and professionalism to the Penn-Delco School District for 10 years.

Beginning her career in education as a teacher of fifth grade and special education students, nationally renowned educational authority Leslye Abrutyn became an Acting Assistant Principal in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, in 1984. Serving Harriton High School, and later Lower Merion High School, as Acting Assistant Principal, Leslye Abrutyn next accepted a position as Assistant to the Director of Secondary Education within the Lower Merion School District. After acquiring invaluable experience in the district’s Central Administration office, Leslye Abrutyn was recruited to serve as the Assistant Principal at Springfield, Pennsylvania’s Springfield High School. Demonstrating astute management capabilities, Leslye Abrutyn was next hired to serve as the Assistant Superintendent of Schools with the Penn-Delco School District located in Aston, Pennsylvania. After four years of dedicated service, Leslye Abrutyn was appointed to the role of Superintendent of Schools in a district comprising 3300 students, 25 administrators, and 500 employees. Leslye Abrutyn’s extensive responsibilities included overseeing the district’s $50 million budget, educational curriculum, technology implementation, human resources, public relations, transportation, facilities, community outreach, and more. Leslye Abrutyn received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Boston College and her Master of Education in Special Education and Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Temple University. Additionally, Leslye Abrutyn earned certification in reading from the University of Pennsylvania and completed the Superintendent Letter of Eligibility program at Arcadia University. As a featured presenter in several broadcasts and videos, Leslye Abrutyn appeared in a technology video sponsored by The Learning Network, the Discovery Channel, and PDE entitled, “Getting to One.” Leslye Abrutyn was also seen in “Safe Schools: the Delaware County Model,” a Safe Schools video released across the United States. Moreover, Leslye Abrutyn served as co-host of “All About Education,” a weekly community radio show focusing on educational topics, and “Inside Penn-Delco,” a biweekly television broadcast featuring programs on myriad topics, such as writing, technical education preparation, and understanding standardized test scores.

    Serving in executive leadership positions in several Pennsylvania schools, Leslye Abrutyn held the highly responsible position of Superintendent of Schools in the Penn-Delco School District in Aston, Pennsylvania for ten years. Widely recognized for her contributions to elementary and secondary education, Leslye Abrutyn works effectively to create a cohesive team of students, staff, parents, and community members to achieve her goal of excellence in schools.

    Highly sophisticated in the use of technology in the classroom, Leslye Abrutyn was an early supporter of using technology to enhance education. She is a vigorous proponent of appropriate technology in schools, and she is devoted to providing her students with in-depth training in its use.

    Leslye Abrutyn has written extensively about classroom technology and has served as a key presenter on the topic at distinguished educational conferences throughout the country. In appearances at the National School Boards Association (NSBA) Conference in San Francisco and the National Technology+Learning (T+L) Conference in Atlanta, Leslye Abrutyn spoke on using technology to improve student achievement.

    Leslye Abrutyn worked effectively to garner significant grant funds for her school district to enable several successful technology-related resources. The Technology Challenge Fund Grant brought $125,000 to the district for professional development and the purchase of classroom calculators. The Goals 2000 Grant awarded the district $50,000 to create a parenting center, and the Tech Prep Grant funds were used to implement a technology preparation program for her students in the relatively early days of personal computer use.

    Additionally, Leslye Abrutyn was a featured authority in the technology video Getting to One, sponsored by The Educator Network on the Discovery Channel. As co-host of the weekly community radio show All About Education, Leslye Abrutyn spoke on a variety of educational topics, including the use of technology. A lively and articulate speaker, Leslye Abrutyn also served as co-host of Inside Penn-Delco, a biweekly television broadcast on local affairs, lending her educational and technology expertise to the program.
