Dubbed “a rare talent and uncommonly soulful” in the Chinese World Journal, pianist Lilli Xibei Jia took the U.S. by storm when she performed at age 14 in the prestigious Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition. A seasoned professional by then, Lilli Xibei Jia began playing at age three and won her first competition at age eight; Lilli Xibei Jia has been a featured pianist on NAXOS recordings and is one of the youngest solo pianists in history to appear with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. She has appeared as a soloist with numerous other orchestras, such as the American Youth Symphony, the Boston Pops Orchestra, and The Callithumpian Consort, among others. Lilli Xibei Jia earned an Artist Diploma on a full scholarship from the Sichuan Conservatory of Music. She has also studied in other music capitals, such as Paris and Lake Como, Italy, at the International Piano Academy. At the New England Conservatory, Lilli Xibei Jia earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Piano Performance. While in college, she received an NEC merit grant and won first prize in the NEC Concerto Competition. Lilli Xibei Jia continues to study at New York University, working toward a postgraduate degree in Piano Studies. Lilli Xibei Jia performs classical music in famed recital halls in China, Europe, and the U.S. Additionally, Lilli Xibei Jia collaborates with acclaimed chamber artists, such as Donald and Vivian Weilerstein, Roger Tapping, Nicholas Kitchen of the Borromeo String Quartet, and the JACK Quartet, Argento Ensemble, and Second Instrumental Unit, among others. Lilli Xibei Jia also maintains a devotion to contemporary music, performing in Monday Evening Concerts in Los Angeles, at Saklad Auditorium in New York, at Jordan Hall in Boston, and at other venues around the world. Passing her gift on, Lilli Xibei Jia recently joined the faculty of New York University’s The Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development and the J. Lefton School of Performing Arts. In other pursuits, Lilli Xibei Jia volunteers for UNICEF and acts as a Goodwill Ambassador for The HOPE Foundation in China; her recent performances include an appearance for the launch of the MindUP program, a signature educational program of The Hawn Foundation.
