  • Importing Domestic Animals to the Bahamas, Part 1
    January, 2011
As a pet owner, you might find that visting the Bahamas with your pet or any of the Caribbean Islands with your animal is an arduous process. Our two-part guide focuses on importing pets to the Bahamas, explaining the resources and pet import procedures necessary for an unhindered move.

    Step 1: Start Early

By beginning the process at least one month in advance of your move, you will avoid the frustration of last-minute preparations and the possibility of incomplete, government-required documentation.

Step 2: Attaining an Import Permit

Necessary documentation includes an import permit, available from the Ministry of Agriculture, Trade, and Industry (Nassau). A permit is required for all animals entering the Bahamas, and there is an application process for it. The permit application costs $10 to process; the Ministry of Agriculture assesses this fee for each animal you wish to import. For example, if you own three animals, you must send $30.
