Silver

Intern, United States Senate

Owings Mills, Maryland

After graduating from The Park School of Baltimore, Lucy Silver decided to take a gap year before entering Harvard College. Lucy Silver lived in Oxford, England and Florence, Italy, which afforded her numerous travel opportunities. While visiting other cities and immersing herself in the surrounding culture, Lucy Silver also performed community service and took classes at the Oxford Tutorial College and the Florence University of the Arts S.R.L. Then, after returning to the United States and entering Harvard, Lucy Silver began studying government. Her first high school internship had been in the field of public relations (PR), and her first college internship was at the consultancy PR firm Greentarget, where Ms. Silver performed clerical work and researched PR opportunities and publication information.

The following year, Lucy Silver undertook an internship at The Legal Aid Society in New York City, where she began by completing a weeklong tutorial in criminal investigations. For the rest of her summer internship, she partnered with another intern to research a total of 40 criminal investigations on behalf of defense lawyers representing clients who could not afford legal services. The internship required Ms. Silver to perform both office and field work, visit crime scenes, gather evidence, read police reports, and report observations. In 2011, Lucy Silver began an internship in the United States Senate, where she actively applies the knowledge she has acquired at Harvard. In her position in the United States Senate, Lucy Silver performs legislative and administrative tasks that include writing memos, researching topics of interest, organizing mail, making deliveries, and attending hearings and briefings.
