Mahesh Uberoi is the founder and President of My Personal Health Record Express, Inc. d/b/a MphRx. The idea of MphRx was germinated in 2008 when Mahesh and his wife Madhu heard about the fate of a young cancer patient at Tampa General Hospital. His parents wanted a second opinion from Sloan Kettering Memorial, NY. They put all the child’s health records and radiological images on DVDs and sent them via Fedex to the hospital. By the time the specialist at Sloan got the package, the child had passed away. The specialist made a statement that had a lasting impact on the Uberois. He mentioned that had he received the package a day or two earlier, he would have put the child on some experimental medication and perhaps saved the life of the child or at least extended it. This story caught the attention of the Uberois. They started researching as to why radiology images cannot be transported electronically just like normal images. To their surprise they found that it was technically possible to transport images that can be sent via internet or dedicated lines. Almost all radiological images use a standard protocol called Dicom. This made their job all the more easier. Mahesh Uberoi and Madhu had founded other Information Technology companies in the past. Their first venture, Uii Corporation was sold in 2001to the Nasdaq listed company, Cognicase, which was later acquired by CGI group out of Montreal, Canada. The next venture, Webify Services, helped develop the product for Webify Solutions that was sold to IBM Corp in 2006. With this background it made sense for them to launch MphRx, with a tag line, “Saving Lives through Technology”.
