During his career, Mahmoud Mohieldin has made substantial contributions to the development of Egypt’s economy, serving in senior capacities at various government ministries and in the private sector. A noted university teacher as well, Mohieldin spent many years serving as a Professor of Financial Economics at Cairo University’s Faculty of Economics and Political Science, during which time he authored numerous papers for professional societies and academic journals. As a Managing Director at the World Bank Group since September 2010, Mahmoud Mohieldin brings more than two decades of scholarship and government experience to his post, in which he focuses his energy on sustainable development, poverty reduction, private sector development, and more for developing countries. Affiliated with a wide range of professional organizations, Mohieldin is a member of the Center of European Studies and the Arab Society for Economic Research and was a member of the Board of Trustees at the British University in Egypt and the Board at Banha University. As a further testament to his achievements, Mohieldin was selected in 2005 as a member of the Commission on Growth and Development and as a Young Global Leader for the World Economic Forum.

Following receipt of his Bachelor of Science in Economics, First in Order of Merit, from Cairo University, Mahmoud Mohieldin earned a Master of Science in Economics from the University of York and a Ph.D. in Economics from Warwick University. Among his many positions in the Egyptian government, Mahmoud Mohieldin worked as Economic Advisor to the Minister of State for Economic Affairs, Senior Economic Advisor to the Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Senior Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Trade, and Minister of Investment, performing in this latter role between 2004 and 2010.
