Dr. Marcia Chatelain is the Reach for Excellence Assistant Professor of African-American Studies and Honors at the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Chatelain’s research focus include Chicago’s Great Migration era, African-American girls and girlhood, and the relationship between food and civil rights. Dr. Chatelain is a 2000 Truman Scholar and former Resident Truman Scholar. Dr. Chatelain, a graduate of the Missouri School of Journalism, holds an AM and Ph.D. from Brown University’s Department of American Civilization. She makes her home in Oklahoma City with her husband Mark Yapelli.
