Medical Director of the Department of Surgery, Bariatric Division at the New York University (NYU) Langone Medical Center
As a practicing physician, Marina Kurian, M.D., has been invited to numerous conferences and gatherings of medical practitioners to showcase her work in innovative research studies. Titles she has presented include, “Obesity: Challenges and Solutions,” in September 2005 at the AACN Brooklyn Chapter Meeting in Brooklyn, New York; “Current Status of Bariatric Surgery,” at a February 2005 NJACP meeting; and “Weight Loss Surgery: State of the Art,” at Monmouth Medical Center Grand Rounds in Monmouth, New Jersey, in February 2004. Currently, Marina Kurian, M.D., works in partnership with the New York University Langone Weight Management Program and serves as the Medical Director of the Bariatric Center of Excellence at New York University Langone Medical Center. She has held the latter position since June 2008. Additionally, since 2007, Dr. Marina Kurian has instructed students as an Assistant Professor at the New York University Langone Medical Center. Prior to her work with New York University, Marina Kurian, M.D., served as an Attending Physician at Lenox Hill Hospital from 2000 through 2007, and as the Medical Director at the Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence for Lenox Hill Hospital from 2005 through 2007. A graduate of Union College, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology and Modern Language, and Albany Medical College, where she earned her M.D. in 1990, Dr. Marina Kurian has participated in many postgraduate opportunities to increase and hone her medical expertise and knowledge. Most recently, Marina Kurian, M.D., served as a Laparoscopic Surgery Fellow at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, New York, from July 1998 to June 2000. Dr. Kurian has also served in various capacities and training programs at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan at Wayne State University in Detroit; Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts; and Albany Medical Center. Marina Kurian, M.D., is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Internal Medicine in Critical Care Medicine. She is trained in Advanced Trauma Life Support as well as Basic Life Support, and she holds a license to practice medicine in the states of New York and Michigan. An active contributor to her profession’s development, Dr. Kurian participates in a number of professional organizations, including the American College of Surgeons, of which she is a Fellow, as well as the Association of Women Surgeons and the Medical Society of the State of New York.
