With an entrepreneurial mind and a passion for new technologies, Mr. Mark Washburn has shown an amazing knack for executive-level management in the communications industry. Working comfortably in all facets of the business, from raising capital to mergers and acquisitions, Washburn has consistently demonstrated excellence throughout the course of his 23-year career.

After attaining a Bachelor of Science degree from Clarkson University in Computer Based Management Systems and Marketing in 1985, Mark Washburn has shown the ability to process industry information quickly and enact positive business growth. Washburn entered the communications industry with MFS Communications and helped pioneer the introduction of competition to the Baby Bell operating companies. Mr. Washburn held successive positions of increasing responsibility until the acquisition of MFS by WorldCom for $14.3B.

Mark Washburn continued to demonstrate strong business abilities leading the sales and marketing efforts for XCOM Technologies, a data networking service provider backed by Matrix Partners and Battery Ventures. XCOM Technologies achieved profitability in its first year and under Washburn’s leadership grew revenues from zero to $35M. Mr. Washburn initiated the highly successful 170 million dollar acquisition of XCOM Technologies by Level 3 Communications.

In a very short time, Washburn was assuming greater levels of responsibility, culminating in his appointment as CEO and President of HarvardNet in 1999. Under Washburn’s guidance, HarvardNet increased revenues from 5 million dollars to 27 million dollars before eventually being acquired by Allegiance Telecom (now XO Communications) in a 65 million dollar transaction.

In his current role, Mark Washburn works as Vice President of Development for HyperCube, LLC, a venture-backed communications service provider focused on the leading wireless carriers. For HyperCube, Mr. Washburn has already created substantial growth including the identification, development and closing of wholesale communications contracts with leading wireless carriers worth over $18M in annualized revenue.
