Markus is an active firefighter and analyst in emergency management currently working in Washington, DC. While a student at UVA, he was a firefighter with the Charlottesville FD and founded a company called Fire Hardware that develops rescure equipment. Markus was a 2005 Truman Scholar and studied at Trinity College, Dublin as a Mitchell Scholar in 2006
