Mary Pat Hepp has taught students from kindergarten through college for over 35 years.Illinois State University graduate Mary Pat Hepp holds more than three decades of experience in education after teaching in Illinois, Iowa, New York, California, and Colorado. Certified in special education, Mary Pat Hepp began her career educating students with learning disabilities and instructing on a variety of topics, including science courses such as biology, marine biology, health, physical science, and earth science. When Mary Pat Hepp joined The Bishop’s School in La Jolla, California as a science teacher in the early 1990s, she received her first administrative position as Science Department Chair. Part of Mary Pat Hepp’s duties included serving on a number of committees, including those concerning Academic Affairs, technology, the alcohol and drug policy, humanities, and the Steering Committee for the self-study process that leads to Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accreditation. During the eight years Mary Pat Hepp worked for The Bishop’s School, she involved herself with other teachers by performing in the 1997 Faculty Musical, and with students by serving as a class sponsor, organizing field trips and science fairs, and coaching the Science Olympiad team. In 1999, the North Shore Country Day School re-hired Mary Pat Hepp as Head of the Middle School and science teacher; she had previously taught science and math at the Winnetka, Illinois, institution. In Mary Pat Hepp’s new position as division leader, she also taught marine biology. Her participation in coaching the school’s Science Olympiad team assisted in bringing them to state competitions every year for four years. Mary Pat Hepp also involved herself in most of the school’s administrative functions by sitting on curriculum, education, enrollment, technology, and faculty evaluation committees, as well as the Strategic Plan Committee of the board, and the 21st Century Committee on Science and Technology. Following her tenure with North Shore Country Day School, Mary Pat Hepp moved to California to act as Interim Director of the middle school at Redwood Day School in Oakland, California. She remained in California to perform as the Science Department Chair for Sacramento Country Day School. At the latter institution, Mary Pat Hepp worked with issues involving the curriculum and diversity, served on the Strategic Plan committee, and helped design and install the first school garden. For the past three years, Mary Pat Hepp has directed the middle school at Alexander Dawson School in Lafayette, Colorado. Mary Pat Hepp chairs its Alliance for Character Education and aids committees focused on curriculum, mentoring, diversity, admissions, technology, and faculty evaluation, and serves as a middle school science teacher.
