In 2008, Sportscaster and MLB Network On-Air Personality Matt Vasgersian received a coveted hosting position for NBC’s coverage of the Summer Olympic Games. Throughout the two-week event, Matt Vasgersian provided live, early morning broadcasts on NBC. Matt Vasgersian prepared on-air segments in Studio 8H at Rockefeller Center, the same offices used by the staff of “Saturday Night Live.” This was Matt Vasgersian’s third role as an Olympic Games anchor; his prior experience included the Torino Winter Games in 2006 and Athens Summer Games in 2004, where he covered baseball and softball. Matt Vasgersian wields an accomplished broadcasting resume spanning nearly 20 years of service. Vasgersian’s experience includes seven years as the San Diego Padres’ lead announcer. On a national level, Matt Vasgersian concurrently profiled for FOX Sports with “FOX Saturday Baseball” and “FOX NFL Sunday” telecasts. Matt Vasgersian’s last three years resulted in his BCS Bowl coverage with Fox Sports: the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl in 2008 and 2009 and the FedEx Orange Bowl in 2007. Prior to the Padres, Matt Vasgersian announced Milwaukee Brewers games from 1997 to 2001. Matt Vasgersian eventually moved to the MLB Network to anchor MLB Tonight. Launched in early 2009 to the biggest audience in cable television history, Matt Vasgersian is seen in 50 million homes nationwide. As a leading on-air studio host for the network’s flagship program, Matt Vasgersian leads MLB Tonight for four hours every weekday. Matt Vasgersian reports on baseball highlights and tracks all MLB teams for the station. In addition to his MLB Network hosting duties, Matt Vasgersian throws an annual Texas Hold ‘Em charity poker tournament. The 2008 poker tournament benefitted the San Diego County Fallen Officers Fund and Tender Loving Canines, an organization that trains assistance dogs for those with special needs. Matt Vasgersian’s philanthropic event has drawn more than 300 players and raised tens of thousands of dollars in just two years.
