Tonn, MD, has served as President and Chief Medical Officer of Dallas-based OccMD Group P.A. since 2000. OccMD provides medical management services for employers that have opted out of workers’ compensation. Dr. Melissa Tonn’s areas of expertise include providing independent medical evaluations and designated doctor evaluations. In select cases, Melissa Tonn, MD, provides treatment at her clinical practice, and she also performs evaluations in Houston and Fort Worth. She has maintained community physician privileges at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas since 1997. Dr. Melissa Tonn obtained her Doctor of Medicine with honors from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 1986. After a year as a Transitional Medicine Resident at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, she earned an MBA focused on Health Care Management and Finance at Rice University in Houston. She subsequently earned her Master of Public Health at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Throughout the 1990s, Melissa Tonn, MD, held numerous positions as Medical Consultant and Medical Director engaged in occupational health services and was a Managing Physician with firms, clinics, and health centers in the Houston area. She continues to act as a Medical Consultant for Total Petrochemicals USA, Inc., in Houston, and Arkema Inc. in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Melissa Tonn also held a position as Occupational Medicine Consultant with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. A fellow of the American College of Occupational Environmental Medicine and diplomate of the American Academy of Pain Management, Melissa Tonn, MD, has twice served as President of the Texas College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. Since 1995, she has served as Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Texas School of Public Health at Houston and, since 2003, as Associate Professor with the University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler. Melissa Tonn, MD, received appointment from Texas Governor Rick Perry in 2011 to the Board of Regents of Texas Woman’s University, which maintains campuses in Denton, Dallas, and Houston.
