Dr. Michael Elterman, a clinical and forensic psychologist with over 25 years of experience, runs a successful private practice in Vancouver, British Columbia. Concurrent with his private practice, Dr. Elterman served for many years as a consulting psychologist to the British Columbia court system, for which he helped facilitate child custody decisions by testifying for the court.

As a consulting psychologist, Dr. Elterman provided testimony in the areas of criminal sexual assault, child custody and access, child development, memory development, and child sexual and physical abuse. Dr. Elterman is highly qualified as a child and adult clinical psychologist in all levels of the court in British Columbia. During the course of his career, Dr. Michael Elterman has prepared over 2,500 court reports. Dr. Michael Elterman received his Master of Psychology in 1978 from the University of Ottawa and went on to earn a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Queen’s University.

The University of Utah School of Medicine honored Dr. Elterman with a fellowship in behavioral medicine in 1981, and he also possesses a Master of Business Administration from Simon Fraser University. Dr. Michael Elterman’s extensive career in forensic psychology began at the Royal Ottawa Hospital (now part of the Royal Ottawa Health Care Group) in 1977 while he was still a student, and subsequent forensic positions followed, including a position as a counselor with the Sex Offender Treatment program of Kingston Penitentiary.

Dr. Michael Elterman also contributed his expertise in the realm of general clinical psychology. In 1981, Dr. Elterman secured a position as a Senior Psychologist for the Vancouver Health Department, and after a seven-year tenure, he left to join the Vancouver Hospital & Health Sciences Centre as a Clinical and Consulting Psychologist. Dr. Elterman also headed the Department of Psychology at the University of British Columbia University Hospital, Shaughnessy site, from 1988 until its closure in 1993. During this period, the Parole Board of Canada contracted Dr. Elterman to perform inmate assessments. Dr. Michael Elterman remains a registered psychologist in British Columbia and Alberta.
