Dr. Michael Fredericson

Dr. Michael Fredericson is a Professor in the Department of Orthopedics & Sports Medicine at the Stanford University Medical School’s Division of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. In this capacity, Dr. Michael Fredericson instructs physical medicine and orthopedic fellows, residents, and medical students in both academic and clinical settings.

A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Redlands, where he earned a B.A. in Psychology, and New York Medical College, where he was in the top 2% of his class and selected into the Alpha Omega Honor Society, Dr. Michael Fredericson completed an internship in General Internal Medicine at San Francisco’s Mount Zion Hospital before joining Stanford’s Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Program for his residency. From 1991 to 1992, Dr. Michael Fredericson was the Chief Resident in the Stanford program. After completing his residency, Dr. Michael Fredericson pursued a fellowship in Sports and Spine Medicine at Sports, Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Associates of Portola Valley, CA and is one of the first in his field to earn subspecialty certification in sports medicine.

Dr. Michael Fredericson has been board certified by numerous organizations, including the National Board of Medical Examiners, the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehab , and the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine.

Since 1992, Dr. Michael Fredericson has taught at Stanford Medical School in various capacities, beginning as a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Functional Restoration and rising to the position of Clinical Assistant Professor in the same department in 1995. In addition to his duties at Stanford, Dr. Michael Fredericson has served as a Consulting Physiatrist to the Spine and Sports Clinic at Stanford’s Vaden Student Health Center, as well as to the Stanford Coastside Family Practice Clinic. In 1996, Dr. Michael Fredericson was named Co-Director of the Electrodiagnostics Lab at Stanford’s Division of Physical Medicine of Rehabilitation, ascending to Director in 2007. In addition to his current title of Professor, Dr. Michael Fredericson is the Director of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Sports Medicine Clinics and Sports Medicine Fellowship program and a head team physician for the Stanford cross-country, track & field, swimming and softball teams.
