Michael Ioli resigned from his position as Upper School Director at Vail Mountain School in order to pursue a Master’s degree from the Klingenstein Center, a part of the Teacher’s College at Columbia University in New York City. Michael Ioli’s previous work at Vail Mountain School proved essential to the school’s operations. Not only did Michael Ioli oversee the upper school faculty, acting both as manager and mentor, but he also acted as the senior class advisor, guiding students as they prepared to graduate. Further, Michael Ioli held teaching responsibilities and prepared students for high-level Spanish language tests. Beyond his academic duties, Michael Ioli brought his personal passion for outdoor adventure to the students of Vail Mountain School. Ioli served as the Director of Outdoor Education, leading backpacking, mountain biking, and rock climbing trips, while also managing all the equipment and land for the program. In addition, Michael Ioli founded and coached Telemark Ski Team, a nationally recognized team that consistently placed at annual national championships. Michael Ioli’s commitment to both faculty and students at Vail Mountain School generated positive educational and extracurricular mobility for those in his classroom. Michael Ioli’s studies at Columbia include Private School Leadership, which will allow him to expand upon his skill levels as an educator. Future students will benefit from Michael Ioli’s ability to communicate the values of experiential and traditional learning. Michael Ioli’s next classroom will wield the knowledge to climb mountains and have an intellectual conversation about Lorca or Cervantes in a non-native tongue.
