Captain Mitchell Skiff Engelhart navigates the globe as a commercial airline pilot.

Roswell, Georgia

Pilot Mitchell Engelhart keeps his head in the clouds and his feet on the ground. Engelhart balances a high-energy, high-stress career with an astounding peacefulness and tranquil sense of self. His decades-long career as a pilot, his personal interests, and his compassion set him apart as a humble high-flyer with a good heart. Splitting his leisure time between two extremes, Mitchell Engelhart loves to tinker in his garage and can spend hours focused on a single project, but he is also energetic. The outdoors call to Mitchell Engelhart, and on the weekends, he can often be found out in the woods, hiking, jogging or romping with his golden retriever. Engelhart counts hang gliding among his many interests, but he is just as happy relaxing with a good book, especially if it relates to his passionate interest in aviation. Flying, reading, exploring: Mitchell Engelhart’s pastimes reflect an active imagination and a mindful engagement with the world. After Hurricane Katrina, Mitchell Engelhart proved that sense of engagement. Engelhart volunteered to airlift patients and other stranded citizens out of a flooded New Orleans. However, Mitchell Engelhart feels that his determination could never match the courage of the victims he assisted in 2005. Engelhart was only offering his fellow Americans the service and dedication they deserved. Mitchell Engelhart’s charitable spirit has aided countless others in his support of Angel Flight, a nonprofit organization that offers free, long-distance medical air transportation for critically ill patients. Angel Flight relies on volunteer pilots to deliver children and adults to hospitals and other medical facilities around the country for evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment. A resident of Georgia, Mitchell Engelhart stays active by swimming, mountain biking, and jogging. His other interests include reading books on aeronautical history, renovating vintage planes, and traveling.

Vintage aircraft Mitch Engelhart is a pilot who embraces every aspect of his profession with passion and zeal. Even during his time off, Mitch can be found flying volunteer missions or surrounding himself with planes. As a lover of vintage aircraft, Mitch joins other aviation enthusiasts who enjoy repairing and refurbishing old airplanes, many dating from the WWI era of 1914-1918. There is a great deal of romance associated with these old flying machines. Motivated to maintain the history of the era, vintage aircraft restorers also actively engage in keeping the planes in the air for their own and others’ flying pleasure, as well as for the education of the public. Like classic car enthusiasts who recognize and appreciate the special beauty of engines built from yesteryear, vintage aircraft lovers take great delight in the precise craftsmanship of the wooden propellers and the mechanics of early flying machines. Maintaining vintage aircraft for flying must be done according to exacting standards set by professional aircraft associations. In addition, there are many organizations at local, national, and international levels that bring together people who share an interest in aviation history or who, like professional pilot Mitch Engelhart, love the magic of flight and the beauty of a well-made flying machine.
