About: Nadir Nasibov

Formerly the chairman of the State Property Committee in the Azerbaijan Republic, Nadir Nasibov played an instrumental role in the transition to a free market economy. When he accepted this position in 1996, Nadir Nasibov began assisting with the privatization of state properties and the incorporation of medium and large enterprises. In 2000, after completing this commitment, Nadir Nasibov accepted two simultaneous President positions with the Economic Research Center and the Azerbaijan Basketball Federation. In the decade since Nadir Nasibov assumed a leadership role with the basketball federation, the athletic organization has made numerous significant accomplishments. In 2002, Olympic champion Rimas Kurtinaitis joined the men’s team as Head Coach. Under his guidance, the team won the First Islamic Games in Saudi Arabia and the European Promotion Cup in Albania. In 2008, they won the first European Championship within Division C in Scotland, and two years later, they won the international tournament Novruz in Kyrgyzstan. In his early career, Nadir Nasibov taught Russian and literature at a secondary school for two years. A talented journalist, Nadir Nasibov also held editorial positions with multiple publications, including the Youth of Azerbaijan newspaper and Yurd, the official magazine of the President of Azerbaijan. Nadir Nasibov also founded APEX Production and Trading and Europe-Asia, an international magazine. Nadir Nasibov attended Azerbaijan State University, where he earned a diploma in philology. In 1988, Nadir Nasibov graduated from the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan after completing postgraduate studies at the Institute of Oriental Studies.
