Nancy McInnes | Community servant and activistGainesville, FloridaFor Gainesville, Florida, resident Nancy McInnes, charity and philanthropic work play a part in her everyday life. Trained at Des Moines, Iowa-based Drake University in education, human services, and journalism, Ms. McInnes used to teach English and reading skills to high schoolers. A generous individual, Nancy McInnes donates regularly to nomadic family initiatives, such as the Alachua Multi-County Migrant Education (AMCME) program. Maintained by the Alachua County Public Schools system, AMCME focuses on educating children, adolescents, and young adults of migratory families who follow crop harvests around the country. Understanding of the difficulties faced by transient workers, Ms. McInnes previously organized a jeans drive, which collected some 100 pairs of denim that she donated to local migrants. In the past, Ms. McInnes also gathered more than $5,000 of donated baby formula from area doctors to give to AMCME. A regular contributor to Catholic Charities USA, Nancy McInnes has also donated to the Roman Catholic order the Missionaries of Charity and supported the group’s work in the Appalachian region of the United States. In 1992 when Hurricane Andrew ravaged Florida’s southern half, Ms. McInnes quickly organized a charity fund-raiser to collect toiletries, blankets, and food for the people of the City of Homestead. Additionally, each year Ms. McInnes adopts a family during the holiday season, donating children’s Christmas gifts. Nancy McInnes's Schools
