Award-winning journalist Nichelle Medina anchors CBS News 8 weekday morning shows at 5:00 A.M., 6:00 A.M., and 11:00 A.M. A dedicated reporter, Nichelle Medina regularly wakes at 2:30 A.M. to cover breaking news throughout San Diego, California, where she has worked since March 2001. Since joining News 8, Nichelle Medina has reported on topics such as the 2003 and 2007 wildfires, for which she earned an Emmy Award, and the military jet crash in University City in December 2008, which garnered her the second Emmy of her career. In addition to her responsibilities with televised newscasts, Nichelle Medina also develops cut-ins for KFMB-TV’s sister station, KFMB AM Radio.

Prior to joining CBS News 8, Nichelle Medina launched her career as an anchor and producer with KGNS-TV in Laredo, Texas, before serving as the morning and noon anchor at KGPE-TV in Fresno, California. During her time with KGPE-TV, Nichelle Medina assisted in creating a community service award program that granted recognition to Fresno residents committed to humanitarian causes. Nichelle Medina took her passion for community service to her work in San Diego, where she remains highly involved with the Salvation Army.

When she is not delivering the news, Nichelle Medina enjoys spending time with her husband, a Marine Corps pilot, and her two dogs, Joey and Sady.
