new to bigsightWorking as a regulatory attorney for much of her career, Nygina Mills has established herself as a highly experienced government affairs specialist. Mills worked with the United States Departments of Transportation and Defense, litigating on various hearings, and her broad legal knowledge has garnered Mills praise for her ability to apply the law to specific, challenging cases. After years of gaining familiarity with securities, legal analysis, business advisory services, and mergers and acquisitions as a corporate lawyer, Nygina Mills became a federal government attorney. Combining her business strategy talents and global focus, Mills earned a top position as a Senior Trial Attorney for the Department of Defense. After September 11, the department was flooded with requests from private sector candidates to access to classified information. Mills handled many of these requests, alleviating the backlog by processing the cases. Mills served as a legal advisor for the government as Senior Trial Counsel. Interpreting United States codes and previous legal proceedings, Mills argued in the courtroom. Mills conducted cross-examinations, as well as direct examinations, on behalf of the government. Mills was in charge of writing decision and appeal briefs and providing counsel before Defense Department administrative law judges across the United States. Mills gained professional accolades for her hard work and learned the breadth and scope of handling top secret security clearance proceedings. In addition to her government legal work, Nygina Mills is active in various community service organizations and is a member of various committees. Mills is involved in the professional organization Women in Housing and Finance and is affiliated with the Junior Woman Club of Chevy Chase, Maryland, which is a part of the American Federation of Women’s Clubs. Nygina Mills studied law at Harvard Law School, where she received her Juris Doctorate. Nygina Mills is admitted to the District of Columbia Bar Association, Maryland Bar Association, and is a member of the American Bar Association. Prior to her work with the Department of Defense, Mills worked in corporate and securities law in the private sector. Mills also served as a legal advisor for the Government regulator of the aviation and manufacturing industries, the United States Department of Transportation.
