Orlando's Status Updates

With nearly two decades of experience as a teacher and administrator of secondary education, Orlando Ramos has become a well-respected expert and leader focused on local educational development.

Orlando Ramos began his career as an educator with Walton High School in the Bronx, where he served as Teacher, Dean, Staff Developer, and High School Assistant Principal. During his time at Walton, Ramos undertook a myriad of challenging duties, overseeing all aspects of security, safety, and attendance for a student body and staff of over 3,600. Orlando Ramos devised and implemented various strategies to improve the school’s overall culture and tone, which aided academic growth of the student body.

Orlando Ramos later joined East Harlem Leadership Academy as Junior High School Director and Founder. Ramos spent three years helping the academy reach full staff capacity and achieve increased student enrollment. Ramos’ professional efforts resulted in significant gains in student scores on State Math and English examinations as well. Student suspensions also dropped dramatically as Orlando Ramos implemented successful curriculum and culture improvement strategies.

Subsequent to his role with East Harlem Leadership Academy, Orlando Ramos accepted the position of High School Principal at West Contra Costa Unified School District. Ramos’ guidance heralded a series of major accomplishments for the school, including an increased AP course load, a substantial raise in college applications, and the placement of all ninth graders in biology classes for the first time in the school’s history.

Today, Orlando Ramos is an active member of the San Jose Mayor’s Gang Prevention Task Force. In 2008, Orlando Ramos was honored with the West Contra Costa Delta Project Man of Merit Award and California Peace Prize Award, this honor is bestowed upon 3 Californians each year.
