Based in the greater metropolitan area of Atlanta, Georgia, the nonprofit Ovie Mughelli Foundation promotes a multifaceted campaign of environmental education. Established by Atlanta Falcons fullback Ovie Mughelli, the Ovie Mughelli Foundation strives to use fun and engaging activities to inspire America’s youth to participate in preserving the environment. Recognizing that the fate of the world lies in the hands of young people everywhere, Ovie Mughelli has developed a variety of programs to attract children to environmental causes and set the stage for a new, more responsible generation of planetary stewards. Touting the motto “Our future is green,” Ovie Mughelli and the Ovie Mughelli Foundation spread a pragmatic message, focusing on what can be done to save the planet, rather than what seems out of reach. Ovie Mughelli recently launched Mughelli’s Eco Challenge, which encourages children to identify local environmental issues and devise real-world solutions to these problems. Mughelli’s Eco Challenge fosters an atmosphere of friendly competition among children from various schools, as they create viable business plans to clean up their neighborhoods and generate income for the community at the same time. In association with the Greening Youth Foundation, Ovie Mughelli takes part in the Green Speakers Series, which educates Georgia’s children at the elementary, middle, and high school level about jobs in the environmental sector. The Ovie Mughelli Foundation also partners with the Captain Planet Foundation to fund a team of dedicated “Mughelli’s Planeteers.”
