HabeRae Investments Inc

Reno, Nevada

Pamela Haberman and Kelly Rae, owners of HabeRae Investments Inc., spent much of their lives growing up in the bustling Nevada town of Reno. The two entrepreneurs and founders of HabeRae Investments Inc. remembered admiring the view of their home city from the surrounding hillsides as teenagers. By 1998, that view had changed dramatically as pastures were converted to housing developments and the nearby mountains became dotted with homes. Haberman and Rae founded HabeRae Investments Inc. in 1998, heeding their inner calls to reduce urban sprawl with sustainable and environmentally friendly homes in Reno’s urban core. After only a few years in business, HabeRae Investments Inc. had developed a significant portfolio of renovated properties, including apartment complexes and family homes. The goal of HabeRae Investments Inc. has always been to beautify existing properties rather than build anew and risk losing more of Reno’s natural landscape to development. Pamela Haberman and Kelly Rae learned that for every acre lost to new construction, four acres of open space are also destroyed. In 2005, HabeRae Investments Inc.’s founders discovered that the reclamation of blighted buildings and homes and the transformation of these properties into attractive and functional residences had a name: urban infill. During HabeRae Investments Inc.’s 12-year history, the Reno-based firm has remained steadfast in its commitment to renovating rundown buildings into eco-friendly homes. HabeRae Investments Inc. is widely recognized for developing 8 On Center, an award-winning project situated in the heart of Reno. HabeRae Investments Inc.’s improvements to Reno’s cityscape has earned the firm a number of awards over the years, including the 2007 Mayor’s Community Improvement Award and a Reno Green Building Award, both given for developing 8 On Center. In 2009, HabeRae Investments Inc. was deemed a Reno Historic Preservation Advocate for its adaptive reuse of four 100-year-old brick buildings at SoDo 4. HabeRae Investments Inc.’s Pamela Haberman and Kelly Rae converted the former dilapidated sleeping quarters, where railroad personnel once bunked, into charming modern apartments that utilize double-pane windows, thick insulation, and updated plumbing systems to reduce energy and water expenses.
