Managing Editor, Syndication - The New York TimesNew York, New YorkNew York Times Syndicate managing editor Patti Sonntag began her career in journalism writing for the Montreal Mirror, and after moving to New York, wrote for The Globe and Mail about the Sept. 11 attacks and the Patriot Act. Once she had completed an M.F.A. in Writing at Columbia University, Patti Sonntag transitioned to an internship with The New Yorker. As a freelance fact-checker, Patti Sonntag worked on a number of New York Times reference books, including parts of “The New York Times Almanac 2005.” As a result of the high quality of her work, she was offered a job as a contributing editor with The New York Times Syndicate. Following two and a half years of strong work, particularly as a copy editor, Ms. Sonntag accepted a position as senior editor with the company. In this position, she held responsibility for the hiring and training of new editors, researchers, and supervising copy editors. As a backfielder and copy editor, Ms. Sonntag worked on op-eds and analytical pieces by such prominent authors as Francis Fukuyama and Jorge Ramos. During this time, she also worked for the New York Times research desk, helping journalists writing pieces under short deadlines. At present, Patti Sonntag continues her longstanding track record of success with The New York Times Syndicate as the organization’s managing editor. Her portfolio of writing includes articles published by The New York Times Syndicate and The Montreal Mirror, as well as The Globe and Mail.
