Paul Meacham knows how to run a business; he helped manage the day to day operations of a burgeoning national pet franchise and started his own corporate venture out of a sales booth in the Wisconsin state fair. Meacham’s first appearance in the entrepreneurial world began quietly enough; the young entrepreneur journeyed to a wholesale supplier and bought a couple hundred Lighted Frisbees. Meacham took his novelty purchase to the Wisconsin State fair, not knowing if his plan was destined for greatness or a dramatic failure that would throw him flat on his financial face. In his first year of business, Meacham more than tripled his initial investment, gathering sale numbers that were beyond his wildest dreams. For most kids, this might signal the end of the saga, but Meacham was not going to settle for selling his wholesale wares at state fair for the rest of his life. Meacham named his company Flying Saucers Inc., and took his fledgling business idea to Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, Wisconsin. The Alpine Valley Music Theatre has been holding massive concerts since it was created in 1977 and can accommodate 40,000 people. The theatre also features a unique wooden roof and a pavilion that seats over 9,000 concert goers. Alpine Valley is always a major stop for touring bands, not only when they visit Wisconsin, but also Milwaukee and sometimes Illinois. The theatre has featured bands like the Grateful Dead, Phish, Guns and Roses, Van Halen, Motley Crue, Boston and even Jimmy Buffet. Paul Meacham was not intimidated by this prestigious venue, and convinced the theatre owners to sell his Frisbees at their concerts. Impressed by his business plan, the theatre agreed and Meacham completed a large deal with Alpine Valley, giving him a fortune commonly reserved for aged businessmen. The theatre even began selling Frisbees with labels of different bands that were playing on a given night, further solidifying Meacham’s entrepreneurial notoriety.
