In 2001 Mr. Pelosi was appointed by Mayor Willie L. Brown Jr., to the San Francisco Commission on the Environment. He was reappointed in 2005 by Mayor Gavin Newsom and has served as president for the past 3 years. During his tenure as President, Paul’s performance of the various duties associated with the position has been overwhelmingly outstanding, and as a result, Paul Pelosi is well respected in San Francisco. His ability to build consensus and administrate in a fair, balanced fashion has been highly praised in both political and laymen circles. Under Mr. Pelosi’s leadership, the Commission has been at the forefront of environmental policies including partnering with utilities to implement energy efficiency programs resulting in a reduction of 28 megawatts in electricity, increasing residential and commercial recycling from 46% to 70%, reducing carbon emissions to 6% below 1990 levels, and was the first municipality to implement a ban on plastic bags. As the Commission President, Paul Pelosi develops legislation that is in keeping with the Commission on the Environment’s core goals. Much of his work involves developing outreach programs that are geared towards promoting environmentally friendly activities. Through its programs, the San Francisco Department of Environment advances its overall goals while inviting community participation and interaction. The latest component of important programs is a drive to research innovative new technologies that will contribute to the reduction of San Francisco’s carbon footprint. In order to develop breakthrough techniques from a variety of sources, Paul regularly interacts with business leaders, politicians, and community leaders. To date, Paul Pelosi’s efforts to gather input have been successful in reduce the City of San Francisco’s carbon footprint. Prior to working in the environmental sector, Paul Pelosi worked in the finance and banking sectors in a variety of roles: first as a Principal with Bank of America Securities in San Francisco, California and second as a Sales Manager and Originator with JP Morgan Chase Manhattan, also in San Francisco. Pelosi serves on the Board of Directors of Astrobotics, a company committed to putting a robot on the moon and the board of advisors for airpatrol corporation,a company that is devoted to wireless solutions that help protect corporate information.
