Possessing numerous academic degrees and certificates, Mr. Paul Zomchek has consistently advanced in the field of education since commencing his professional career as a graduate of Loyola University of Chicago. A journalism and communications major, Paul Zomchek held several jobs in advertising before moving to San Francisco, where he worked as a freelance journalist. It was in San Francisco where Paul Zomchek also became involved with the Shanti Project providing support to Individuals with HIV. In addition to volunteering with the Shanti Project, Paul Zomchek reevaluated his career goals and enrolled at San Francisco State University to work toward his teaching credentials. Paul Zomchek commenced his career in education as a paraprofessional for the San Francisco Unified School District. Two years later, Paul Zomchek obtained his teaching certification and went on to become an elementary teacher. In 1992, Paul Zomchek joined the United States Peace Corps. In addition to fine-tuning his grasp of Spanish there, Paul Zomchek trained and provided support to teachers in the Corozal Town, Belize. Armed with a well-rounded knowledge of diverse cultural perspectives, Paul Zomchek returned to the U.S. and took a job in New York as a Gifted and Talented Dual Language teacher of Spanish and English. It was in 1994 that Paul Zomchek also began his Master of Arts in Education program at Columbia University Teachers College. Seven years later, Paul Zomchek joined the New York City Board of Education’s Office of Comprehensive Planning and School Improvement to aid New York City Schools in complying with their federal mandates under the No Child Left Behind Act. Today, Paul Zomchek serves as a School Support Team Facilitator for the New York City Title I Regional School Support Center. In this position, Paul Zomchek is instrumental in providing support to teachers and administrators through teaching courses such as “Making Data Work for You,” “Making Classroom Assessments Work for You,” and “The Learning Institute for Accelerated Middle School Achievement (LIAMSA).” Paul Zomchek is also the co-creator of LIAMSA. Currently, Paul Zomchek maintains memberships in the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the National Middle School Association, and the New York State Association for Bilingual Educators (NYSABE). In the summer of 2009, Paul Zomchek was engaged to speak at the American Federation of Teachers Quest Conference on the topic of “Data Analysis and Student Achievement.” More recently, March 13, 2010, Paul Zomchek was awarded the “Bilingual Support Person of the Year Award” by the New York State Association for Bilingual Educators. Paul Zomchek has continued his writing with Educational articles such as “Up and Away: A Tool Builds Understanding in School Leadership Team Meetings,” for The United Federation of Teachers Teacher Center Publication: “Special Edition.”
