As the 37th Director of the Office of Management and Budget, Peter Orszag brings an unwavering commitment to service and an impeccable track record to President Barack Obama’s administration. Demonstrating his talents at an early age, Peter Orszag attended Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire, where he graduated with high honors. From there, Peter Orszag pursued undergraduate studies at Princeton University and developed a penchant for economics. After graduating summa cum laude from Princeton with an A.B. in Economics, Peter Orszag won a Marshall Scholarship and chose to continue his education at the London School of Economics. In the following years, Peter Orszag studied a wide range of topics concerning finance and economics, including hyperinflation and privatization, earning both his M.Sc. (with distinction) and Ph.D. in Economics from the LSE. While pursuing graduate studies at the London School of Economics, Peter Orszag held numerous positions as a researcher and analyst for a variety of government organizations and NGOs. As Research Officer at the Centre for Economic Performance from September 1992 to August 1993, Peter Orszag authored Russian Economic Trends, a quarterly report of the Russian Government. Peter Orszag additionally operated as Economic Adviser to the Russian Ministry of Finance, where he served the Macroeconomic and Fiscal Unit and worked on negotiations with the International Monetary Fund. At the end of this period, Peter Orszag joined the staff of the Council of Economic Advisers and spent the next year focusing on reform, international trade, and macroeconomics in the former Soviet Union. Working within the Clinton Administration, Peter Orszag served as a Senior Economist and later as Senior Adviser to the Council of Economic Advisers, where he wrote and edited the 1996 APEC Economic Outlook, the Economic Report of the President, and the Weekly Economic Briefing of the President. As a result of his performance, Peter Orszag was appointed as Special Assistant to the President for Economic Policy in the National Economic Council from November 1997 to May 1998. Peter Orszag has spent the last decade holding positions at a variety of educational institutions, nonprofits, and NGOs, and also served as Director of the Congressional Budget Office. Peter Orszag lives and works in Washington, D.C.
