Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery

The Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery tells the story of America through the individuals who have shaped U.S. culture. Through the visual arts, performing arts, and new media, the Portrait Gallery portrays poets and presidents, visionaries and villains, actors and activists who speak American history. Most notable of the collections include those of American presidents, portraits from the Colonial Period, and from the Revolution. Artists include Gilbert Stuart, Mather Brown, John Trumbull, Charles Willson Peale, Benjamin West, and many others not only from the country’s early period, but also modern artists and photographers.
