National Zoological Park

 

The National Zoological Park, located in Rock Creek Park in Washington, DC, is a part of the Smithsonian Institution. It sits on 163 acres and is home to 2000 animals of nearly 400 different species. The best known residents are the giant pandas Tian Tian, Mei Ziang, and their cub Tai Shan. The zoo is visited yearly by over two million people. It also is a world leader in research, conservation, and education for endangered speices. The zoo also has a state-of-the art veterinary hospital and extensive research facilities.
