Union Station in Washington DC

 

Union Station is a vital and historic train station in Washington, DC. It opened in 1907 as the transportation gateway to the nation’s Capitol. It was designed by architect Daniel Burnham based on several classical models including the Arch of Constantine. It is prominently situated at the intersection of two of Pierre L’Enfant’s avenues and faces the US Capitol five blocks away. It fell into disrepair following WWII but was restored and revitalized as a transportation hub by the Redevelopment Act of 1981
